Markets are sharper, audiences are more selective, and the pace of change leaves little room for guesswork. Businesses that stand out aren’t always the loudest, but they are the most aligned.
To stay competitive and keep winning in business, make sure you’re deliberate in how you show up.
That means:
- Understand your audience
- Clearly position your value
- Confidently move in your own direction
Meet your audience with solutions
Attention is earned through relevance. Your audience isn’t looking for how great you (say you) are at what you do. TBH, they don’t care. What they need is answers.
Don’t produce content for the sake of it and please do not let ChatGPT or Claude do all the work (or as they say, heavy lifting). No more generic messaging. Only specific, outcome-driven, customer-centric communication.
Find out as much as you possibly can about your ideal client. What problems are they trying to solve right now? What decisions are they weighing up? Where are they getting stuck?
When your messaging reflects their real challenges and offers practical ways forward, it connects faster and builds trust sooner. That’s what it takes.

Check your competitors, but run your own race
Competitor intelligence is gold if you want to stand out in your industry. That’s why you should always identify and keep an eye on the competition.
Find out what others in your industry are doing and analyse the data you’ve collected. At a minimum, do a structured review every quarter.
Knowing how others position themselves can highlight gaps and opportunities. It can sharpen your own thinking, but do not let it dictate your direction too much.
Businesses that maintain momentum are the ones that stay true to their own strategy. They make informed decisions but don’t get pulled off course.
Top Tips to stay competitive in 2026
1. Provide a personalised experience
Attention is limited and audiences are quick to disengage when communication feels generic or disconnected from their needs. Personalisation is a baseline expectation now, and that means being intentional about how you engage.
Tailor your messaging. Refine your offers. Create touchpoints that feel relevant. Do not try to appeal to everyone and talk directly to your ideal client. Offer them the best customer service and solutions for their needs.
2. Check your AI visibility
If your business isn’t visible in AI-driven search and recommendation tools, you’re missing an important part of the picture. Beyond SEO, this is about how your content is structured, how well your expertise is communicated, and how easily your value can be interpreted by both humans and bots.
Visibility sits across multiple layers these days, and it pays to understand and optimise where and how you show up. If you need some advice around that, read more here or get in touch.
3. Review your business strategy
What worked 12 months ago won’t necessarily carry you forward. Step back every now and again to assess your direction. It keeps your business aligned with current conditions.
Are your offers still relevant? Is your positioning still strong? Are you focused on the right opportunities?
Staying competitive comes down to focus. Knowing where to put your energy, how to communicate your value, and when to adapt.
Show up as the best in business
Positioning matters, but it tends to get blurred over time. Offers evolve, markets shift, and messaging gets layered with internal assumptions. It’s important how you define your value, and to determine if your current position is strong enough to hold attention.
It’s one thing to define a strong position, another to consistently show up in line with it.
In short, when your focus, your brand, your messaging and the delivery align, it’s much easier for your ideal clients to make the decision to work with you.
It sets you apart without the need to push harder.
Fix the thinking first
Many businesses build their marketing around what they do, rather than what their audience needs. I see it all the time, and guess what… It doesn’t work!
Things will move in the right direction when you approach marketing with a customer-centric focus. Don’t be afraid to challenge assumptions, strip out bias, and turn your thinking to outcomes instead of deliverables. Your messaging will be more targeted and effective.
Confidence plays a role here, too. Not in the sense of overstatement, but in knowing where you add value and standing behind it. It stops you reacting to every shift in the market or competitor move and keeps you firmly anchored in your own strategy.
I can help you identify the risks, spot the opportunities, sharpen up your positioning, then tackle your marketing strategy. I can implement and execute it all, too. Then you can confidently grow your business, stay competitive, and become more profitable.
